iOS Android Developer (Home Based)

We are specialists in re-designing clinical pathways to help patients get a specialist assessment more quickly and receive the most effective treatment. To do this we mix together talented software engineers like YOU with leading clinicians and operational experts with deep experience ‘in the trenches’ of the NHS. If you are motivated by the thought of using your impressive technical skills to improve healthcare for everyone, we would like to hear from you.

Our team is as passionate about improving healthcare as we are about our technology. You’ll find a hard-working crew that enjoys problem-solving together and is always ready to help each other out. We have a strong focus on learning new skills and staying current with the latest developments so you can expect opportunities to try new tech and attend classes. We were part-time home workers before COVID and we’re happily running fully remote now. If and when normality returns, we expect to continue to work remotely for the majority of the time.

To be considered for the role, you’ll have the following essential attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other “STEM” subject

  • Minimum of two years iOS and Android development experience on commercial apps

  • Fluent English

  • Experience developing software for healthcare including familiarity with requirements for medical device development (desirable)

  • Familiarity with developing solutions for remote communication and collaboration (desirable)

  • Knowledge of App Store and Google Play deployment processes (desirable)

  • Experience integrating with other cloud services using REST and GraphQL APIs (desirable)

  • Experience working within a Quality Management System e.g. ISO9001 (desirable)

We’re looking for an experienced mobile apps developer to play a major role in the development of our Virtual Lucy platform. Lucy embeds the clinical triage experience of our experts in a highly scalable application with demanding requirements for usability and accessibility across mobile and web.

Lucy is a great networker, using video, audio and collaboration technologies to link people together while simultaneously coordinating data sharing with systems for electronic health records, diagnostic imaging and healthcare CRM. Experience in any of these areas will help you but is not essential for candidates willing to learn.

In this position, you will also be:

  • Researching and developing new capabilities for the Virtual Lucy iOS and Android apps, drawing on your experience and understanding of our technical strategy and product roadmap

  • Providing technical leadership and guidance to the front-end team in the best-practise use of tools and methodologies for mobile app development including staying current with the latest developments in Swift, Java and Kotlin

  • Mentoring and supporting more junior developers to help them grow their skills and progress while setting a first-class example for them to follow

  • Maintaining a strong focus on testing everything you develop as well as championing the use of new tools and methodologies to improve software quality

  • Working closely with QA to ensure issues are quickly understood, root cause identified, and an effective resolution implemented

  • Contributing to our agile development process by working closely with Scrum leaders and UX designers to understand customer requirements and call out technical considerations which may not have been considered

  • Being an active participant in stand-ups, retrospectives and sprint planning including striving to accurately estimate development timescales

  • Following modern software engineering best practise: collaborative distributed coding with branching version control, continuous integration and deployment

  • Driving world-class quality in the development and support of our products in accordance with our ISO9001 and ISO27001 Quality Management System
